A Whale of A Sunrise in the North Atlantic

This sunrise image had a surprise in it. A whale spouting in the sunrise you can just see him in the images. All images are copyrighted all rights reserved.

I have never captured a sunrise like this one.

The power of cropping makes this a "Fill the frame," image.

Yes you are funny. I love the personalized icon, building on your brand. It's very nice. ;-)

We still want everyone to use the brand imaging that was created for the group's use. I don't want to discourage you from using your creation here but can find a way to incorporate everything into your Friday-Saturday-Sunday articles while keeping them distinctively apart? It's very important for everyone to be consistent with the brand imaging.

BTW, do you know what that steamy thing in the water (by the whale?) is?

JJ,

First... Fantastic sunrise photo!!! Nice of that whale to accommodate at exactly the right moment.

Second... I would like to offer some thoughts on your Mighty Images graphic. Ben and I and others have gone to great lengths to create a brand or a logo for the group. It would be really nice if you used THOSE images for the purpose of identifying the particular feature and the group (e.g. foto-friday, weekend-exposure, etc). If everyone make their own variation on those things then it pretty much defeats the purpose of the brand.

Third... I think your graphic is GREAT! In fact I have some of my own, like this, and this, and this... But I am not using my graphics as substitutes for the NVP branding. I encourage you to keep making those graphics... They are very creative... You are good at making them! But as I said above, please don't use them to replace the NVP brand.

Cheers,
Mal

Mal- I respect your wishes in the matter and thank you for your thoughts on the subject. I would like to ask for a rain check on discussion because I am currently working on something else that is very important to me and these image articles are a small part of it.

Ben- The sunrise has a whale spout in it. It drifted on the breeze and I got a number of images of it as it dissipated.

A sunrise like that is a rare gift. The addition of a whale spouting, you must be blessed. Beautiful photo's.

Is that because of waves? I had to go up and look again...

    They are very beautiful!

    I believe so chelli.

but if you see what I do, the waves, although not tall, are extremely wide.

Although it can appear to be flat, the sea is always in motion.

I could be all wet, though!:)

I actually wasn't sure about that. A wide angle lens will warp the horizon but I wasn't using one. I think that it was the light bending around the curviture of the earth. The sea does strange things to light and the camera picks that up

    jj and borehead,

I'd buy either explanation. There is nothing more peculiar to me than looking off into a vast expanse of ocean to change my world view. I've seen the ocean (in person) 3 times, 3 places, and it is such a different of a perspective of the world for me. Very beautiful and wondrous, at any rate.

HollyK- It's the last images from George's bank for me this year. For the first time in recent history the quota for herring has been reached and it closes tonight at midnight.

It is actually a really good sign of a healthy fish stock and a conservative fishing quota.

Maybe it was a ghostest whale spirit JJ? Could have been. Looks like an apparition to me kind of anyways.

Plus, you're a local. Could be some people to know and take advantage of from there. They do have a serious red run occasionally and chums are always plentiful. And the area extends almost halfway to Chignik.

Outsiders stay outside, law of life, rule of existence in Chignik! That and they have shallow seiners and not as many meshes in their nets. Fish the lagoon, live and die in the lagoon.

The oil spill year was tough but 88 was phenomenal in Kodiak. I made 52,000 dollars that season. Red salmon was 2.50 a pound. The Japanese economy was nearing it's peak.
